No, it isnt clear, he looks as if he wasnt aware of the Ferrari until the last moment, if you're racing somebody you're watching your mirrors for him.

He's on the brakes before he enters the frame. As fast as he was going, even after heavy braking, it's hard not to assume that they were on throttle side-by-side before the Ferrari cuts around the camera car and goes for the (non-existent) gap.
